Project Initiation Documentation

Project Initiation DocumentationEffective management & co-ordination of a project is a critical part of ensuring success. Plus provides guidance and controls, as well as establishes implementation targets throughout the process.

It has been proven time and again that user ownership of the project from the beginning is a fundamental component of success. It is important that you provide sufficient resources to the project, and that these resources have the necessary attributes (availability, skills, knowledge, responsibility and/or decision-making ability to successfully carry out the tasks required.

Project Charter: The project charter makes the project official & authorizes the project manager to lead the project & draw on the company's human resources as necessary.

Project Manager Selection: The project manager selection document assists you in determing the appropriate person to take on the project manager role of your project.

Cost/Benefit Analysis: A cost-benefit analysis differs from a feasibility analysis in that dollar amounts are used in the determination & that both costs & benefits are reviewed. Please note cost-benefit analyses are merely forecasts of what is expected, they are not hard data. Benefits should include both tangible items such as expected increases to revenues & expected reductions in operating costs & intangible items such as enhanced image or brand awareness.

Feasibility Analysis: A feasibility analysis concentrates on giving management the basic technical & operational data needed to make a decision about whether or not do do a project. Most feasibility analyses look only at the problems to be solved & the organizations' ability to solve them. A feasibility analysis can be as simple as having someone answer the question, "Do we have the ability to do this project ourselves?"

Project Scope: The project scope defines what the project will accomplish and includes elements such as objectives, constraints, assumptions, deliverables, functional requirements, future project lists and more.
