Execution, flawless execution in a direction that is going to help the company is the only thing that is going to keep a company going in 2009.

Read write web has an article on advice for big companies for 2009, and all this advice boils down to one salient point, pick a direction, make sure it is the right direction, then execute that direction flawlessly. In 2006, 2007 it was ok to choose products at random to develop and then keep on shifting the priority at the management level for those projects. Unfortunately that leads to inertial drag on the organization and people stop doing things because they do not know what is and what is not important. This is never good, but large companies can afford it in boom times. No one can afford to this in lean times.
